Services, events, meals to honor veterans

Businesses, schools and other organizations are planning events and services to honor veterans.
Veterans Day is on Wednesday, but activities are planned throughout the week.
• Hair cuts: Locker Room men's salon in Coeur d'Alene is offering free hair cuts to all veterans and active duty military on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Concert: North Idaho College's Music Department will hold a free "USO Salute" concert of familiar jazz favorites from the USO book. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center and will feature Cardinal Vocal Jazz, North Idaho College Jazz Ensemble and special guest Nicole Lewis.
• Meals: The Post Falls Senior Center will offer veterans a free pot roast meal on Wednesday starting at 11:45 a.m. There's a suggested donation of $4 for any other center members 60 and older and a suggested donation of $7 for members under 60. Nonprofits will be available to provide information on the needs of the community.
The Coeur d'Alene Casino will offer a free meal for veterans at 6 p.m.
• Night stay: Four members of the North Idaho Bed and Breakfast Association — The Roosevelt Inn, Coeur d'Alene, 765-5200; The McFarland Inn, Coeur d'Alene, 667-1232; Ida-Home, Post Falls, 773-6169; and Western Pleasure Guest Ranch, Sandpoint, 263-9066 — are offering a free one-night stay for any veteran on Wednesday night.
• Coeur d'Alene ceremonies: American Legion Post 14 and VFW Post 889 will hold a ceremony on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McEuen Park. American Legion Kootenai Post 14 Honor Guard will hold a ceremony at North Star retirement home at 1 p.m. Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment 966 will hold a ceremony at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.
• Hayden ceremony: On Wednesday at 11 a.m. the city of Hayden and the Veterans Commission will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at City Hall and recognize Robert Shoeman, 2015 Distinguished Veteran of the Year at Hayden City Hall PFC Robert J. Gordon Veterans Memorial Plaza. Refreshments will be served afterward.
• Musical: Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho's "A Christmas Carol" the Broadway musical, will be offered for free for veterans plus up to four family members at noon on Wednesday. Seats must be reserved by calling 762-9373. Limited seats are available. Military identification is required.
• Leaf rake: The Seventh-day Adventist Church at 111 E. Locust Ave. in Coeur d'Alene seeks volunteers to rake leaves for veterans. Call 664-5473 if you would like to volunteer or you're are a veteran who would like to have your leaves raked. Volunteers meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
• Coeur d'Alene School District assemblies: Tuesday — Coeur d'Alene High, 9 a.m.; Skyway Elementary, 9 a.m.; Dalton Gardens Elementary, 9 a.m.; Lake City High, 1 p.m.; Borah Elementary, 2 p.m.; Fernan Elementary, 2 p.m.; Skyway Elementary, 6 p.m. Thursday — Ramsey Elementary, 6:30 p.m.
• Post Falls School District events: Wednesday — Mullan Trail Elementary, 9:30 a.m.; Ponderosa Elementary, 9:30 a.m.; Prairie View Elementary, 9 a.m., 9:45 a.m.; West Ridge Elementary, 1 p.m.; Post Falls Middle School, 1:35 p.m.; River City Middle School, 9 a.m.; Post Falls High, veterans breakfast, 8 a.m.; New Vision High, color guard presents colors at noon followed by guest speaker Sean Halsted.
• Lakeland School District assemblies: Monday — Lakeland High, 10:20 a.m.; Tuesday — Garwood Elementary, 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday — Lakeland Junior High, 8:15 a.m.; Timberlake High, 8:42 a.m.; Timberlake Junior High, 11 a.m.; Garwood Elementary, 9 a.m.; Athol Elementary, 9 a.m.; Betty Kiefer Elementary, 1 p.m.; John Brown Elementary, 1:15 p.m.; Spirit Lake Elementary, 1:15 p.m.

IDFG may put tags up for auction
Meeting tonight on proposal to support wildlife management

COEUR d'ALENE — Kootenai County officials said they will notify Commissioner David Stewart that he has 28 days to remedy not having a proper building permit and occupancy certificate for his Coeur d'Alene-area home that was permitted as a pole barn.
