COEUR d'ALENE — St. Maries High School English teacher Kathy Kahn announced she is running for a District 2 seat in the Idaho House.
Kahn, a Democrat and a resident of Medimont, is running for the seat currently occupied by Vito Barbieri, a Dalton Gardens Republican. The general election is a year away.
Kahn graduated from Post Falls High School in 1973 and then from the University of West Florida in 1989.
She began teaching at St. Maries High School in 1989, and she is planning on teaching part time after she retires in May.
Kahn and her husband, Ralph, have two grown children.
"I'm running because I've been dissatisfied with the people representing me for several years," Kahn said Friday. "I've been behind the scenes complaining and it's time for me to step up and do something about it if I can."
Former Idaho state Sen. Mike Blackbird is Kahn's campaign chairman. Chris Carlson, a former journalist and press secretary for former Idaho Gov. Cecil D. Andrus, will be a behind-the-scenes adviser and will help raise money for Kahn's campaign.
