About anything for dogs (and their humans) will be available at The Labrador Store & More when it opens mid-month in Suite 143 of the Plaza Shops downtown at 210 E. Sherman Ave.

Owner Leanne Wuest lists an inventory including decorative collars (with names), leashes, toys, treats, gifts, treat canisters, beds, custom frames, pillows, rugs — and these are for the dogs.

For the humans she has dog-emblazed bar stools, frames (with 178 dog names), T-shirts, baby clothes, boxer shorts, pajama bottoms, doormats and mountain-lake dog decor.

She’ll run the store with her partner, Buoy, a black Lab. She got the store idea from her first Lab, Kino. She’s leaving the Florida beach, where she had her store for 11 years, for the lake and mountains.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 4 Sundays. Phone and website are pending.

Floors on 4th

to open soon

High-end quality floor coverings and the know-ledge of installing and maintaining them is the specialty of Byron Wery. He’ll open Floors on 4th soon at 314 N. Fourth St.

Wery has many years of experience with installation, refinishing, wood milling, production and distribution throughout the West. His work has been featured in San Diego Home-Garden Lifestyles magazine and HGTV for the blog cabin on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

He will be helped by his wife, Tracy. They have seven children. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Phone 777-5071.

Ironwood

Starbucks to move, grow

The Starbucks outlet in Ironwood Square (between Lincoln Way and Government Way) will be moving from its space at 212 W. Ironwood to the former Schlotzsky’s Deli building at 210 W. Ironwood.

The new location is much larger than the current area and will offer more seating, parking and a drive-through — for probably more open hours. Currently under renovation, the new place will open in the spring.

Starting in Pike Place Market in Seattle in 1971, Starbucks has more than 22,500 locations in 66 countries. Comparatively, McDonald’s started in 1955 and has 36,000 outlets in 119 countries and Subway started in 1965 and has 44,370 outlets in 111 countries.

Uva Trattoria expands

The former small “private” dining rooms in the building that formerly housed Asian restaurants have been remodeled into a large party room to hold 50 people and a front-window private dining room to hold 12 at Uva Trattoria Restaurant.

Located downtown at 309 E. Lakeside Ave., Uva is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4-9 p.m. Sundays. Phone 930-0573. Check www.uvacda.com.

Now for several Tidbits

• Watch for news on Pinot’s Palette opening Nov. 20 at 728 N. Fourth, a new boutique yoga studio downtown, Real Deals on Home Decor opening in December at 400 N. Fourth, The China Inn restaurant opening soon at 310 N. Fourth, McAllister Technical Services moving to the former Runge Furniture building on East Sherman, Ace Hardware opening in Rathdrum and The Growler Guys and Chipotle Mexican Grill opening on Appleway.

• A ways off are Panera Bread in Hayden and the trio of Cracker Barrel, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers and Native Grill & Wings at Appleway-Interstate 90 and Ramsey Road.

• I spent last week with 2,000 students and 200 journalism instructors at the national College Media convention in Austin, Tex. This is an awesome city with the river walk, lively musical downtown, Capitol of Texas and University of Texas all in easy walking distance from each other. Several restaurants have second-floor balconies overlooking the street, which shuts to vehicles on weekend evenings. Huge new construction is abundant.

• He pleaded guilty (not pled).

• A real headline: “Agents raid gun shop, find weapons.”
