SANDPOINT — Many things can lead someone to take their own life, a tragedy that Lake Pend Oreille School District students have been dealing with since last Monday after a classmate committed suicide. The district quickly responded by having professionals at the high school immediately.

“In general, anytime something like this happens, it absolutely increases awareness,” Superintendent Shawn Woodward said.

It’s the third time in just over a year that the district has had to implement its’ crisis response plan after a student commits suicide. Woodward said the plan is used for any crisis involving students and staff, and they mobilize all their counselors and other trained staff to the school where the tragedy occurred. Woodward said counselors were there Monday morning, and in some cases on Tuesday.
