State wildlife officials are investigating the death of a grizzly bear that was shot and found on the side of the road.
The animal was found Friday along Montana 83 nine miles north of Seeley Lake.
It was brought to a Missoula veterinarian, who determined the bear had been killed by a gunshot. The bear also had a wound on its back, similar to being hit by a vehicle.
Three other grizzlies died after getting hit by cars in the last two weeks on Bigfork-area highways.
The bear’s body has been taken to the Fish, Wildlife and Parks lab in Bozeman for further evaluation.
