Man tracks down wife's errant cellphone

A man called Kalispell Police Department after someone had stolen his wife’s cellphone while they were at a U.S. 93 business. While on the phone with police, the man was following the stolen phone, using a “find my phone” GPS application on his own phone. The caller followed the phone to Marion and then to Kila, where he confronted the woman with his wife’s phone. The woman claimed she had simply found the phone and wished to return it, but didn’t know how to operate it. The caller retrieved his wife’s phone and told police the matter didn’t need any further assistance. 

A Northridge Drive resident called Saturday to report someone had driven across his or her yard and destroyed the mailbox. The caller said the neighbor witnessed the entire event, and knew who the driver was. 

Someone called police after they allegedly saw children climbing into the back of their family car when there was no room in the seats. By the time of the phone call, the car had left the restaurant on U.S. 2 West, and left town heading west. 

A woman called police for advice after a coworker had allegedly threatened and intimidated her at her job.

A Hutton Ranch Road employee reported that someone wedged a cinder block above the back entrance so the block would fall when someone used the door. The thoughtless suspect did thoughtfully leave behind a pair of gloves with his name and phone number written inside. 

A Kalispell resident called police after he found a bike that had been reported stolen, and had seen the man who allegedly stole the bike. The caller followed the bike thief for a while, which led to witnessing another bike theft in South Kalispell. Police caught up with the caller when the suspected thief wasn’t able to register a room at a hotel on U.S. 93 and took off on the bike. 


Whitefish Police were unable to find the deer a resident called about, insisting it had a broken leg and needed to be dispatched.

A resident called police after listening to a neighbor’s dog bark at all hours of the night. Police resolved the issue with the homeowner, who brought the dog inside. 


A homeowner called Columbia Falls Police after an old tenant tried several times to enter his previous home on Seventh Street West. The man was with a woman, both in their 50s.

A man was caught shoplifting a sandwich, mouthwash and other items at a Ninth Street West business. An employee tried to stop the man from exiting the store with the items, but he was able to reach his bicycle and flee the scene before Columbia Falls Police caught up with the man. 


Flathead County Detention Center reported eight total bookings over the weekend, including two for driving under the influence.

Climate change awards announced

Climate Smart Glacier Country announced its Climate Smart Champions during a ceremony at the Earth Day celebration April 21 in Whitefish. Awards were presented to businesses, youth and an individual who are leaders in building local solutions to climate change challenges.
