SANDPOINT — Duty, honor, courage, selflessness. Words used to describe hundreds of veterans from around the area Wednesday, in honor of Veteran’s Day.
Veterans were honored at multiple ceremonies for their service and commitment to America. Sandpoint High School honored the veterans with a video and a speaker, and veterans were honored with a 21-gun salute at War Memorial Field. Other ceremonies included skits, free meals and moments of silence for those who lost the fight.
At Sandpoint High School, veterans were led in to the gymnasium by students and seated in the center of the room. The student body listened to Dan Young, a local veteran and deejay, discuss the importance of serving. Without veterans, many of us wouldn’t be here today, Young said, who served for more than 13 years in the Air Force, working a variety of jobs. He said it was hard work, especially being separated from family and friends.
