COEUR d'ALENE — With cozy quilts and hand-written cards, members of the local Blue Star Mothers of America chapter honored veterans who are residents of the Creekside Inn on Veterans Day.
"It was really cool," said Jennifer Whitmyer, administrative assistant at Creekside Inn. "The looks on the (residents') faces were just amazing to see that they were acknowledged."
Whitmyer reported that three members of Blue Star Mothers of America stopped into the memory care community Wednesday to show their appreciation to the 15 veterans who reside at Creekside. She said all three of the moms have sons who are deployed in Afghanistan.
"They are amazing," Whitmyer said of the Blue Star Mothers. "It was a really, really neat thing that happened."
Blue Star Mothers of America is a non-partisan, non-political organization that comprises mothers, grandmothers, foster moms and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, Guard or Reserves or children who are veterans.
