James H. Almond, 90, a 53-year-resident of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Nov. 13, 2015. He was born July 14, 1925, in Wedowee, Ala., to Henry G. and Maybelle E. (Kirby) Almond. He was a Navy veteran, serving from November 1943 to January 1946. On Jan. 17, 1945, he married Dorothy “Jan” Elliott in San Francisco.
He was employed with Kaiser as a brick mason and mechanic for 25 years as well as owning and operating 4-J’s Sales & Service for 25-plus years. In addition, he was also very involved with his community, serving as a Reserve Officer with the Coeur d’Alene Police Department, a scoutmaster and volunteer firefighter. His hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, gold mining and all other outdoor activities. He was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association, Backcountry ATV and the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Jan” of Coeur d’Alene; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Linda of Coeur d’Alene; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Gary Dipietor of Priest River; brother Leonard of Georgia; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ, 6439 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
