FOOTBALL: Osweiler putting Kalispell on big stage

Flathead Activities Director Bryce Wilson was digging through tapes of old basketball players earlier this week.
The guy he’s looking for should have stood out.
Brock Osweiler, the 6-foot-7 Flathead grad who will replace Peyton Manning as the Denver Broncos starting quarterback Sunday in Chicago, was a star on the hardwood and the gridiron as a teenager in Kalispell.
His story might be well known in Flathead Valley, but the rest of the football-loving country is about to see and hear all about it.
Wilson said he’s fielded calls requesting footage from CBS, the network that will be broadcasting Sunday’s 11 a.m. game.
“They want the basketball angle,” he said.
“He was the (Division I) basketball prodigy that went to play football.”
Osweiler’s athletic career, Flathead High School and the town of Kalispell should get plenty of play on the broadcast Sunday, when the nation’s curiosity about the young passer reaches its peak.
“It’s kind of cool that people are talking about Flathead High School at that level,” Braves football coach Kyle Samson said.
“Everybody is really excited for him.
“It was cool (last week) to see someone you know and respect get into an NFL game.”
While CBS talks up Osweiler’s past, the NFL will have eyes on Fatt Boy’s Sports Bar and Casino during the game thanks to a camera that will be set up inside the bar, recording fans’ reactions to Osweiler’s play.
Fatt Boy’s will open at 8 a.m. Sunday and serve a breakfast buffet until 11 a.m. Manager Danielle Hughes expects the 300-person restaurant to fill up quickly.
“It’s going to be packed,” Hughes said. “We’re telling everybody to show up no later than 9 a.m.”
Hughes said Fatt Boy’s was contacted Tuesday by a Broncos team representative to make the arrangements.
When kickoff comes Sunday morning, Hughes, like a lot of the rest of the country, said she’ll have a little extra interest in the Broncos.
“I went to high school with him,” Hughes said of Osweiler.
“It’s absolutely amazing to see.”
