Researchers awarded NASA grant to track aquatic invaders

FLATHEAD LAKE – Stopping invasive species from destroying ecosystems and regional economies is among the world’s greatest challenges. Now, thanks to a grant from NASA, an investigative team of researchers at the University of Montana Flathead Lake Biological Station will launch a new project enabling officials to predict the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) through remote sensing, genetic monitoring and climate forecasting.

Poll: 22% of Montanans can name state's highest point

MISSOULA – The University of Montana’s Big Sky Poll asked respondents, “Can you tell me the name of the highest natural point in Montana?” Twenty-two percent of respondents answered correctly – Granite Peak. Located in the Beartooth Mountains in south-central Montana, Granite Peak stands at 12,799 feet tall.

UM preps for Pearl Jam concert Monday

The grunge goodness of Pearl Jam has graced the University of Montana many times, and now UM is preparing for the band’s largest Missoula show ever as the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers return on Monday, Aug. 13. This will be the band’s second concert in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The first took place in June 1998.
