Questions arise about shooting squirrels

Flathead Sheriff’s deputies told a woman on Dorothy Street in Columbia Falls that it was not illegal to shoot squirrels, unless it was done in an unsafe manner. The woman had complained because her neighbor had trained a dog to tree the squirrels. The man then shot the squirrels with an air rifle and let the dog eat the carcass. The woman said the squirrel killing was a noise nuisance.
A deputy responded after a man on West Cottonwood Drive reported that he stayed the night at his new girlfriend’s house and found that his ex-girlfriend had entered his home while he was away and allegedly stole photographs of the pair’s (now deceased) son. Some other items were also reportedly stolen from the home.
A man calling from North Dakota reported that his soon-to-be ex-wife was allegedly selling his belongings against a court order not to do so until a divorce was finalized. A deputy told the man his problem was a civil matter.
Dispatchers gave advice to a woman on White Rabbit Lane who called because her power was out and she was very cold. Dispatchers told her to bundle up and found out that the woman is a registered dementia patient. They called the man listed in a registry as her emergency contact, but could not locate him. Dispatchers also contacted the power company to advise them of the woman’s circumstances.
Extra patrol was requested for a residence off U.S. 93 near Kalispell, where two cars had been rummaged through and a horse trailer door had been jimmied by would-be thieves who found nothing to steal.
Someone broke through the glass and stole a jar with $700 and half a rack of beer from a business on Electric Avenue in Bigfork. A report was taken.
Three women on Conrad Drive were separated after they got into a physical fight that may have been drug-fueled, according to the person who called in to dispatch.
Deputies logged a report from Valley Drive, where a property owner said a renter behind on payment had gone “ballistic” and brandished a tire iron when payment was discussed.
Parties were separated on Lake Blaine Drive where a woman reported that a man had pushed her and locked her out of their house. The man locked himself inside with the couple’s four-month-old daughter.
A woman on Woodland Avenue called for help after she found marijuana pipes in her son’s room. Her son’s friend then got angry and yelled swear words at her. She locked herself in her room for protection, until a deputy arrived and advised her of how to destroy to paraphernalia and what parenting options were available.
Two Bear Air was launched to help find hikers in the Dixon area who had not been heard from since 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Kalispell Police Department gave a man a ride to the emergency room after he called and asked that police remove alcohol from his home. The man was drunk and wanted to stop, but said that he couldn’t do it by himself.
A person on First Avenue East North called to report as suspicious person after a Middle Eastern looking man with Michigan license plates “got out of his vehicle and went into the store very quickly.” An officer was unable to locate the man.
Officers responded to Ninth Street East and determined that a man’s claims to dispatchers that he had kidnapped his girlfriend was unsubstantiated.
A woman reported that a peeping Tom was looking into her home while her 16-year-old daughter was home on Second Avenue West for a second night in a row. Officers upped patrol.
A vehicle was stolen from First Avenue West.
A worker at a hotel on U.S. 93 asked for help evicting a guest after a crack pipe fell out of his or her pocket. An officer found that the pipe had been destroyed upon arrival.
A Ford pickup truck was reported stolen from Conway Drive.
A pocket book full of needles was found on North Main Street. One of the needles was full of an unknown substance. An officer arrived to properly dispose of the paraphernalia.
Columbia Falls Police upped patrol on Council Bluffs Drive after a woman called and said someone tried to get in her house while her daughter was home alone.
An officer escorted a woman’s stepson and his girlfriend back to their apartments after they showed up at the woman’s home unwanted, exhibiting signs of drug usage.
Whitefish Police were notified that a vehicle with handicapped license plates previously reported stolen from Texas Avenue had been found in an impound lot.
Officers were asked to confront a transient man who was hanging around a Baker Avenue business scaring customers for several hours.
An officer corrected a Pine Avenue stop sign that had been turned the wrong way.
