Police officers are not taxi-cab drivers

Kalispell Police officers called a shelter to ask if there was room for another person after someone on Cooper Lane asked that a woman who had been staying at an apartment be removed from the location. Police took her to the shelter, but the woman called back saying that she had left her clothing and medicine at the apartment. The police called the original caller to look for the medicine and try to coordinate a drop-off at the shelter since it is not the police’s job to be people’s personal taxi service.

An officer collected and disposed of two syringes found in a parking lot behind a restaurant on Main Street.

A woman called for help in a road-rage incident at the intersection of West Center Street and First Avenue West after she pulled out at a four-way stop and obstructed the view of another driver. The man then got out of his car yelled, “Let’s go,” and swear words at the woman. He banged on her window. An officer left a voicemail for the man.

An officer was unable to locate a man on Bluestone Street after a woman said he came to her door with a card and tried to stick his hand in the door to try to gain access. The woman was able to keep the man outside. He fled on foot. An officer thought he may have been a salesman.

A man on Fifth Avenue East reported that someone had threatened to shoot him and his daughter.

A worker at a business on West Idaho Street said someone had turned in a $5 counterfeit bill. The person who turned it in was caught on camera.

A man on Tenth Avenue West asked for advice after he advertised for a roommate and got a response from a woman who wrote him a $4,000 check and asked that he take portions of the money to different businesses. The man said the woman’s request made him uncomfortable.


A Whitefish Police officer found a familiar local transient woman on Montana 40 after someone called concerned that a young girl with a young baby might have been left out in the cold. The woman was holding a sign that said “I need a miracle,” and had a pull trailer for a small child. The officer determined that the woman was fine.

A man called from Central Avenue to ask about his rights. The man had been arrested two days earlier and said that witnesses had told him that he was only being loud and that a bar bouncer had assaulted him once he was taken outside. Officers answered the man’s questions.


Columbia Falls Police arrested a woman on Eighth Avenue East North for drug possession.

An officer found no actual crime had been committed after someone called from Waverly Place to say he was afraid of a neighbor with a gun. The man said he had confronted the neighbor about loud music and during the discussion a gun fell out of the neighbor’s pocket. The man said the neighbor did not threaten him but he was afraid.


Columbia Falls Police arrested a woman on Eighth Avenue East North for drug possession.
