The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported a high-speed pursuit and suspect still at large on Sunday.
According to a press release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy who was beginning his shift at about 5 a.m. Sunday in the Ronan area observed a red laser dot on his chest while walking from his home to his marked patrol vehicle. The deputy took cover and was able to see that the source of the laser was a vehicle at the end of his driveway.
The deputy reportedly gave chase to the vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes, reached speeds of 80 mph and included Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Flathead Tribal Police.
The chase ended in the Pablo area, on the U.S. 93 Frontage Road. When the suspect’s vehicle stopped, the driver, Marlo Albia Tonasket, 36, fled on foot and was not captured. One passenger, Matthew Manyhides, was arrested on outstanding warrants. A female passenger who has not been identified was detained for questioning and later released without charges.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing, and it is still unknown if the source of the laser light was a firearm or laser pointer.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for Tonasket, who is wanted in relation to this case and also on an outstanding warrant from Shoshone County, Idaho, for possession of stolen property. Tonasket is described as a 5-foot-11-inch Native American male, weighing about 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Deputies are asking the public not to attempt to approach or capture Tonasket, but to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 406-883-7301 with information on his whereabouts.
