Shirley Mae Howerton, 83

Shirley Mae Howerton, of Athol, Idaho, passed away Nov. 14, 2015, in Vancouver, Wash. Shirley was born on Feb. 11, 1932, in Opelousas, La., and was formerly married to Theodore Crause, bearing four children: Richard (Bill) Crause, Daniel Crause, Gordon Crause and Joseph (Joe) Crause.

She is preceded in death by Joseph Crause. She married John Charles Howerton Sr. who passed away in 2007.

In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Shirley was also a loving grandmother to the following: Stacy Crause and Henry Jara, Ted Crause, Tori and Rick Johnson, Becky Martin, Sheila and Nathaniel Kite, John and Amira Crause, Amber Crause, Katlyn Kay Eckerson and Daniel Crause. Her great-grandchildren are Kameryn Jara and Henry Jara Jr.

During her lifetime, Shirley was known to be a nurse and prison guard in Louisiana. In 1982, she relocated to Idaho where she met and married John Howerton who preceded her in death. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Viewing will be held from 9-10 a.m. with funeral Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene; followed by graveside service at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.
