The first big snow of the season landed on Kalispell Tuesday, prompting the city of Kalispell to issue a reminder about the order of snowplowing routes.

Crews will clear avenues on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Streets will be cleared on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The following priorities are followed by city crews clearing streets:

Phase One: Emergency routes, bus routes, arterial roadways and hill routes — service provided at all hours by the Street Division.

Phase Two: Expand efforts to all traffic-collecting roadways and residential city streets.

Residential Streets: Plowed within 48 hours of the end of snowfall in excess of three inches. Areas with less than three inches will not be plowed from residential streets unless drifting occurs.

Alleys: Alleys will not be plowed except to maintain essential city services.

Private driveways, driveway berms and sidewalks remain the responsibility of property owners. It is strictly forbidden for a city plow to clear snow or ice from private property.

For more information on snowplow plans and routes, call the Public Works Department at 758-7720 or email Public Works Director Susie Turner at publicworks@kalispell.com.
