A 73-year-old Lake County man was found dead just after midnight on Wednesday on a trail off Hellroaring Road near Polson, just past a landmark known by locals as Hellroaring Cabin and landslide.
Lake County Sheriff Don Bell said foul play is not suspected, but the man’s body was sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for analysis. The man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
Bell said the man’s wife called at about 10 p.m. saying that her husband was overdue. Lake County Search and Rescue and Two Bear Air Rescue were dispatched in the search. The man was found dead a couple of hours later.
“He was an avid hiker and biker,” Bell said “He’s been here a long time.”
