Fired planner expanding legal battle

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County land use planner who claims he was fired for blowing the whistle on a “tyrannical” county commissioner is expanding his legal battle to win reinstatement and recover damages for wrongful termination.

Counsel for former Senior Planner Dan Carlson filed a claim for damages against Bonner County and a civil rights lawsuit in U.S. District Court. Carlson already has a civil action pending in Idaho’s 1st District Court.

The tort claim was filed in 1st District Court on Nov. 16. The civil rights action was filed in federal court on Nov. 13.
