SANDPOINT — Students from Sandpoint High School are collecting anything textile to raise funds for a trip to Tanzania in June.
Clothes for the Cause, a fundraising organization, will pay the students $4 per 30-gallon bag of textiles or shoes the students collect. Kristin Hawkins, social studies teacher and coordinator for the group, said the students will earn about $200 each for participating in the project. The goal is 50 bags per students, with nine students taking the trip. Donations can be dropped off through Friday, Dec. 4 at the high school.
There are also two teachers making the 22-hour trek to Africa. Hawkins said the students are all girls this year, in a range of ages. Each student will pay about $5,000 to participate, mainly for airfare, Hawkins said. The trip is open to all students, not just those attending Sandpoint High School.
