Most of Glacier National Park’s secondary roads are closed for the winter season. On the east side, the Many Glacier, Two Medicine, Chief Mountain and Cut Bank roads are all closed. The Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed at the gate near at the St. Mary campground. The Sun Road on the west side is closed at Avalanche Creek. The Inside North Fork Road is closed at Fish Creek and beyond Doverspike Meadow. The Camas Road remains open. Closed roads are treated as trails and are still open to skiers and snowshoe travel in the winter.

Campers need a backcountry permit for most locations, though the Apgar picnic area and the St. Mary campground are open free of charge in the winter.
