HAYDEN — Brand-name beverage distributor The Odom Corp. is building a 92,000-square-foot facility in Hayden that will serve as the operations center for its Coeur d'Alene-area business.
Construction is underway at 12281 N. Warren St. The foundation has been built, along with underground utilities. Part of the parking area has already been paved.
Connie Krueger, the city of Hayden's community and economic development director, said the construction value is just less than $9.2 million.
"The Odom project is being constructed in a previously undeveloped area of the city located in the Lancaster Road and Highway 95 area," Krueger said Tuesday. "We worked with a very accelerated timeline on the Odom permit and actually reviewed and approved the site plan and footing/foundation building permit with our same-day joint review and permitting process."
Jerry Dexter, Odom's Spokane-based senior vice president, said the company is hoping to have construction completed around May 1.
He said 89 employees will be based in the new building.
Dexter said the company liked the location because of its proximity to customers and access to U.S. 95.
"It just happened to be a piece of land that fit our needs," he said Tuesday.
Odom has been working from two buildings in Coeur d'Alene, including a warehouse at 3858 N. Schreiber Way, he said. Those operations will be consolidated into the new Hayden facility.
Odom, which has its corporate office in Bellevue, Wash., also has a warehouse in Lewiston.
Odom opened a distribution center west of Spokane last year at 5810 W. Thorpe Road. It also has operations in Oregon and Alaska.
Dexter said the city of Hayden has been great to work with.
"So far we're really enjoying the relationship," he said. "They are very business-friendly."
Design Group Facilities Solutions Inc., of Concord, N.H., is the general contractor for the Hayden facility construction. It built Odom's facility west of Spokane.
Local subcontractors are being hired for the Hayden facility construction.
