ROYAL CITY — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association named Royal High School running back Joe Lang the class 1A athlete of the week last week.

Each week during the school year, the WIAA recognizes 12 varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who gave an outstanding performance during the previous week.

Lang, a senior at a school that annually competes at the highest level in football, was nominated by a community member and selected by WIAA staff for achievements in Football.

Lang rushed for 101 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead top-ranked Royal over visiting Charles Wright in the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs. He posted three scores on the ground and one receiving.

In recognition of his accomplishment, Lang received a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director, Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week t-shirt, and a certificate.

Winners’ names are posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com
