Cd’A rec taking signups
for adult men’s hoop league
COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department is currently taking team registrations for the mens basketball league that begins Sunday, Nov. 15.
This league is mainly played on Sundays with a few Monday or Wednesday games.
Team entry fee is $565.
Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 16. Teams will play a 10-game schedule.

EWU men picked third in
preseason Big Sky hoops poll
Eastern Washington was picked to finish third by both the media and the coaches in the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball preseason poll.
Idaho, in its second season back in the Big Sky in hoops, was picked to finish in a tie for seventh by the media, and a tie for eighth by the coaches.
The coaches picked Weber State to win the conference, and the media picked defending regular-season champion Montana.
Idaho’s women were picked to finish sixth by the coaches, eighth by the media.

Heisman Trophy to be on
display at Whitworth game
SPOKANE — Longtime Whitworth athletics sponsor Wendle Motors is bringing the Heisman Trophy to the Pine Bowl for Saturday’s 1 p.m. homecoming football game against George Fox.
The trophy, which honors college football’s most outstanding player, will be on display throughout the game and fans in attendance will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken with it.
Chiefs release Rayman,
roster down to 25
SPOKANE — The Spokane Chiefs announced that defenseman Jeff Rayman has been released. His next assignment is yet to be determined.
A 19-year-old from Fernie, British Columbia, Rayman played 86 games over two seasons with the Chiefs, scoring one goal and adding seven assists. He was originally listed by Spokane in October of 2011.
After the move, the Chiefs are now carrying 25 players on their roster, including three goaltenders, eight defensemen and 14 forwards.
The Chiefs hit the road this weekend for the first of six consecutive games away from Spokane Arena. They play the Kootenay Ice in Cranbrook, B.C. tonight at 6, then face the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Wash., on Saturday.
