Motorists hoping to traverse the full 50 miles of Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road had better do so soon. Sunday, Oct. 4, is the last day for vehicle traffic east of Logan Pass to the St. Mary Campground.

The scenic thoroughfare will remain open on the west side as far as Logan Pass until the third week in October, weather permitting. The Logan Pass Visitors Center is closed until next year.

The east side of the road will be closing as crews finish up rehabilitation on the road. The closure will apply to vehicles, but hikers and bicyclists will continue to have access to the east side on weekends and evenings.

Times and locations for boat inspections in the park also have changed, with westside inspections being conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the end of October. On the east side, inspections are by appointment only, at Many Glacier and Two Medicine.

Some trails are still closed on the east side, due to the Reynolds Creek Fire, which burned close to 5,000 acres earlier this summer.

For specific trail closure information, call the park at 758-4407 or visit www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/trailstatusreports.htm.
