Cd'A firefighters quickly contain Tubbs blaze
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 5 months AGO
Citizens in downtown Coeur d’Alene received a sobering reminder today that the threat of wildfires remains high despite cooler air temperatures.
Firefighters responded to a blaze, reported around 5 p.m., that sent smoke billowing from the top of Tubbs Hill.
The fire, which covered roughly 10,000 square feet, was fully contained by 6 p.m. and firefighters remained on the hill to extinguish it.
“We’ve got 15 people on it,” said Coeur d’Alene Fire Department Deputy Chief Glen Lauper.
The fire appears to have been human-caused, he said. Investigators were on the hill at dusk gathering as much information as possible while daylight remained.
Lauper said firefighters want people to remember the region is still at risk for blazes.
There were multiple fires in the wooded downtown recreation area throughout the summer. By mid-August, firefighters had extinguished 14 blazes on Tubbs.
“We will continue to see fires like this until we have rain for a few days,” Lauper said.
