A man has been charged with felony sexual assault without consent for allegedly impregnating a teenager less than half his age.

Phillip Christian Landmeier II, 34, was booked into Flathead County Detention Center on Tuesday and released later that day.

Prosecutors claim in court documents that a Flathead County Sheriff’s deputy interviewed a pregnant 15-year-old girl on July 23, 2014. The girl claimed she had sex with Landmeier during spring break of that year and that he told her not to tell anyone because he could go to jail. The age of consent in Montana is 16.

A week later Landmeier admitted to the deputy that he had sex with a girl.

A DNA sample Landmeier provided was sent to the Montana Crime Lab. A sample provided by the child after it was born in January was also sent to the lab. Tests identified Landmeier as the possible father of the child.

Landmeier will be arraigned Oct. 22. If convicted he faces a minimum four-year sentence in the Montana State Prison. The maximum sentence is life in prison and a $50,000 fine.
