A man is in the Flathead County Detention Center for felony criminal endangerment and driving under the influence of alcohol charges after he led officers on a high-speed chase on Saturday.
According to court documents, a Montana Highway Patrol officer tried to stop Anthony John Boyd, 32, for going 89 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on U.S. 2 near Coram.
Boyd allegedly led four officers down dirt roads in the area at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour until the vehicle crashed and Boyd was caught.
Officers noticed that Boyd smelled of alcohol and appeared to be confused. Boyd asked the officers if he had hurt anyone and became agitated and told the officers that he had killed people in Iraq.
The officers did not attempt field sobriety tests because Boyd was agitated. He allegedly tried to reach the trooper through the glass separator in the patrol car and banged his head against the glass when he was unsuccessful.
Boyd has three prior convictions for driving under the influence from 2005, 2008 and 2012.
He is set to be arraigned Oct. 22.
