Mark Edward Sullivan II, 25
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years, 3 months AGO
Mark Edward Sullivan II, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was born May 24, 1990, to Jolene Hise and Mark Sullivan. He was raised in Silverton, Idaho, until the fourth grade and then started fifth grade in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Mark graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 2009 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps that same year. During high school, Mark loved to play football and had many fond memories of friends during those four short years. After high school, Mark enjoyed going snowmobiling and snowboarding and even moved to Jackson Hole for the winter of 2014 to play in the snow.
In the Marine Corps, he was an infantry Rifleman and he deployed once to Japan and once to Afghanistan. Mark was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2013 as a Corporal. After leaving the Marines, Mark returned to Coeur d’Alene, went to North Idaho College and pursued a career in Wildland Fire Management. During the 2014 fire season, Mark worked with the Fernan Ranger District and in 2015 he transferred to the Idaho Panhandle Hotshots.
From Captain Deven Ravel, U.S. Marine Corps: “Corporal Mark Sullivan was a proud Marine who left a strong legacy with every man he served with. He was a hero, a leader and a brother to the men of Suicide Charley Company, 1st Battalion 7th Marine Regiment. Mark served with 3rd Squad, 2nd Platoon as an assault man during a difficult deployment in one of the most violent parts of Afghanistan. He endured countless patrols and numerous combat situations with bravery, honor and a positive attitude. He was present during one of the worst attacks on American forces during the summer of 2012. He courageously provided aid to three severely wounded Marines. His actions resulted in saving the lives of his brothers. He continued his role as a mentor to Junior Marines throughout his time in the Marine Corps. Mark positively impacted the lives of many men, and his memory will live on through the Marines he served with. He will be missed greatly, but his legacy will continue.”
Mark is survived by his best friend, Basilone; his mother, Jolene Sigmond and stepdad Mitch Sigmond; and father Mark Sullivan and stepmom Annette. He is also survived by his sisters, Amber Hise and Chrysa (Greg) Malone; niece Charlotte; grandparents Shirley Sullivan, Violet Hise and Sylvia Sigmond; stepsister Jessica (Max) Peebles; and nieces Sydney and Camren; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, EL (Nif) Sullivan, Pat and Roy Schnabl, and Al Hise; as well as his Marine brother, Taylor Baune. Mark will forever be remembered for his fun sense of humor and smiling face. Mark’s favorite quote was “Live life to the fullest” and that he did!
