It was an exciting week of football for a few teams in Lake County. More specifically Ronan, who took down an undefeated Florence team on Friday night at home during their homecoming celebration. At the southern end of Lake County, Arlee matched up with Flint Creek. Both teams were undefeated, and as a conference game, the winner would be at the top of the conference standings. Arlee, who was also celebrating their homecoming, came out on top.

Flint Creek 14

On Friday night, the Warriors hosted Flint Creek for their homecoming. As the only two undefeated teams left in the conference, the game was important to stay on top of the rankings. The first quarter was mostly defense, as the only points of the quarter came from a safety by Patrick BigSam. Arlee didn’t get off to a great start on offense, throwing three interceptions in the first half. In the second quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns. BigSam threw a 31-yard pass to Tyler Tanner, then later on in the quarter threw another to Phillip Malatare.

After halftime, neither team was able to put up points in the third. In the fourth, Malatare, who had a nice game, ran one in from a yard out. BigSam ran another in toward the end of the game to make the score 34-14.

With the win, Arlee moves on top of the conference standings. One of most impressive players from the game was Bradley Brazill, who had a great game just one week after having appendicitis.

Arlee travels to Plains on Friday.

On Friday night, Ronan hosted Florence for their homecoming game. The Falcons, who were previously undefeated, took their first loss to the young Chiefs, who may have come of age that night. Ronan jumped out to a commanding lead at halftime on touchdowns by Aaron Misa and Brendon Blood. Misa caught a nine yard pass from Kasey Mock to get things started, then Blood returned an interception for a 102-yard score. After a Florence score, Misa caught another, this time from Ezekiel Misa.

After halftime, the Falcons made a quick comeback with three unanswered touchdowns. In the fourth quarter Florence took a one point lead and were driving again when Ronan recovered a fumble in the end zone to get their momentum back. That recovery didn’t lead to points, but the Chiefs did score again, on a pass from Mock to Zeke Misa, to go up 33-28. With two minutes left, the Falcons were driving again, but the defense for Ronan came through again, first on a tackle for loss by Aaron Misa, then an interception by Zeke Misa to seal the deal for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs, who were sporting their version of a throwback uniform, won their first conference game. Along with some important defensive plays, Ronan’s offensive line was able to contain the Falcons, who have caused problems with their blitz attack.

Mock was 18-29 with 217 yards through the air, including three touchdowns. Aaron Misa had nine catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Zeke Misa had five catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Zeke Misa also had two interceptions, and Blood had one.
