Glacier National Park announced Thursday that it has hired Eric Smith will be the new deputy superintendent in Glacier.
Smith, currently deputy superintendent at Denali National Park and Preserve, will succeed Kym Hall, who left Glacier earlier this year to become superintendent at Colonial National Historic Park in Virginia.
According to a press release announcing the hire, Smith has 21 years of government service, including 11 years with the National Park Service. His experience includes previous posts with the U.S. Department of Justice, the federal General Services Administration and the Navy.
“I am excited about moving to Glacier National Park and returning to the Intermountain Region,” Smith said in the release. “The opportunity to serve as the deputy superintendent at Glacier is an amazing privilege. I look forward to fostering and creating partnerships to protect and operate the park.”
The park also announced two other hires Thursday: Jill Lewis as the new administrative officer and Mary Wysong as the new chief of concessions.
Lewis previously held the same position with the Midwest Archaeological Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, and worked as a human resource specialist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. She is replacing Lisa Towery, who retired after 24 years with Glacier.
Wysong’s experience also includes a stint at Denali, along with concessions management at Mount Rainier National Park.
She has managed historic lodges, food service, thematic retail, bus tours, guides and outfitters in a career that has also taken her to Utah and Wyoming. She is replacing Jan Knox, who retired after 26 years at Glacier.
