Bears cause concern in Whitefish

A Waverly Place resident called the Whitefish Police Department to report chasing a bear and her two cubs away from his house. The caller believed they were black bears, and said they were heading toward Colorado Avenue.

A Wisconsin Avenue resident called to report a black bear going through the trash outside. It was unclear whether it was one of the same bears reported earlier.

A neighbor called to report that two motor homes were parked inconveniently on Railway Street and that they wanted them moved.

A man called officers to help remove his girlfriend’s mother from his property. The caller said the mother was screaming and pounding on windows. Apparently the commotion was being caused over a borrowed carpet cleaner. Officers counseled all parties involved.

A Baker Avenue business employee called to report a driver who allegedly ran into the building and knocked over a pillar.

A concerned caller on Spokane Avenue asked about the legality of riding four-wheelers in town. Responding officers spoke with the mother of the child seen riding the vehicle in question, and she assured them there would be no more riding on the road.

A tree reportedly fell onto East Lakeshore Drive, partially blocking both lanes of the road.


 

Mall security called the Kalispell Police Department to report an alleged shoe shoplifter. The reported thief was a juvenile, who was counseled by officers and released.

Strong winds were allegedly responsible for fallen tree debris blocking the road on Fifth Avenue West North. The fallen fall foliage was removed.

A wind gust also caused a stop sign to blow over on a vehicle on South Meridian Road. The driver was uninjured and only minor damage was reported to the vehicle.

A woman called to report that her small dog had been taken from outside a funeral home while she was inside. The dog reportedly has a skin condition, which caused the would-be dog-napper to believe the dog was being neglected. The dog was returned to the owners unharmed.

A College Avenue resident called to report a yellow and black lab wandering around her yard and house without collars.

A Sixth Avenue West resident called to report a stolen bicycle.

A man called police to report that his ex has his vehicle and is refusing to give it back.

Two women allegedly made away with various undergarments and pharmaceutical items from a U.S. 2 East business.

Officers responded to a call about a possibly drunken man refusing to leave the mall. The man was told to move along.

An employee of a U.S. 93 South business called to report a fight between two men on the premises.

A cooler full of groceries was reported stolen from a truck bed while the owner was at the gun show. 


 

A concerned driver called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a traffic light flashing during the day at Fourth Avenue West. Police contacted the Department of Transportation to address the issue.

A woman called police to report a misplaced purse. Nothing matching the description of the purse or purse contents had been turned in to police, so the woman was advised to contact her financial institutions and alert them that her cards were missing.


 

Evergreen Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion on Helena Flats Road.


 

Creston Fire Department responded to reports of a grass fire on North Ramsfield Road, and a burn pile on Blue Lake Lane.


 

The Coram-West Glacier Fire Department responded to two reports of grass fires; one on Kickbusch Lane, and the other on U.S. 2 East near Essex.


 

The West Valley Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Clark Drive.
