COEUR d'ALENE — Whether Denise Lundy is selling real estate or volunteering in the community, she likes to be on the go.

The outdoors enthusiast even has a treadmill under her computer at work.

Lundy's spunk was recently recognized when she was named Realtor of the Year for both the Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors and the Idaho Association of Realtors.

"I was very humbled with the award from the local association because there are many other deserving people who have served for many years," said Lundy, broker for Fortus Realty in Coeur d'Alene. "It means a great deal to me because you are nominated and judged by your peers."

The state honor, she said, was a "complete shock."

"I was overwhelmed and appreciative, especially with the other nominees that I was next to," she said of the announcement in Sun Valley nearly two weeks ago.

The awards are based on involvement in real estate organizations, community service, leadership and business accomplishments.

"Denise is intelligent, driven and strong," said Danny Davis, broker for Property Research Inc. "All of this while being incredibly selfless at the same time."

Lundy was a driving force behind the Coeur d'Alene association's effort to have a playground constructed at Person Field in Coeur d'Alene and last month's Park(ing) It on Sherman, which was a block party and part of the planning process to revitalize East Sherman Avenue.

"But you would never know it," said Davis, referring to Lundy's quiet leadership style. "She thrives on inspiring others and lifting them up. She has no interest in accolades. She finds her satisfaction and joy in the success of others."

That was also evident when Lundy accepted the award from the 1,100-member local association.

"We had to almost drag her to the podium to say a few words after the plaque was placed in her hands," Davis said. "She wanted nothing more than to take the award and sit back in her seat and fade into the crowd. This was followed by her fighting back tears and quickly stepping down from the podium to a rush of applause.

"She is a true leader, and I am thankful to call her not only a colleague, but a friend."

Lundy has also been involved in the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation, Idaho Conservation League, Spokane Mountaineers and as a classroom aide at Dalton Elementary. She has served on several real estate boards and committees.

"It's such a pleasure to work with people in this community," Lundy said. "It's a special place to live."

Lundy has worked in the real estate industry for 14 years, including as an appraiser and project coordinator for a custom home builder before opening Fortus in 2011.

"What I enjoy most is relationships with clients and watching their families grow," she said. "I also enjoy the day-to-day diversity, whether it's development, working with other agents or collaborating with city or county planners."

Lundy is the second local Realtor to win both the local and state awards in recent years.

Debbie Myles-Myers with Windermere received the honors two years ago.

Lundy will represent Coeur d'Alene and Idaho at the National Association of Realtors convention in San Diego in November. There are more than 1 million real estate agents in the country.

"This community has been great to me, my family and my business associates," Lundy said. "I'll be very proud to carry the Idaho flag at the national convention."
