PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur d'Alene tops Lake City, but T-Wolves clinch top seed to regionals

COEUR d’ALENE — Ali Williams totaled 21 kills, 17 assists, 21 digs and two aces as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings defeated the visiting Lake City Timberwolves 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11 in a 5A Inland Empire League volleyball match Tuesday night at Coeur d’Alene High.

Missy Huddleston added 15 kills and two aces for Coeur d’Alene (18-4, 4-1 5A IEL). Isabella Hollibaugh had 20 assists, Maura Donovan 19 digs, Sydney Bybee six blocks, Kelly Hornung five blocks for the Vikings, who play host to Lewiston on Thursday to wrap up regular season play.

Despite the loss, Lake City (20-4, 5-1) clinched the No. 1 seed to the 5A Region 1 tournament, which begins Saturday. If Lake City and Coeur d’Alene wind up tied for first in league, Lake City won five sets in their two head-to-head meetings, while Coeur d’Alene won four.

Ashley Kaufman had 20 kills and 25 digs for Lake City. Arlaina Stevenson had 10 kills, Tatumn Gould 31 digs, Klaire Mitchell seven kills, 10 digs and 45 assists, and CC Cates had 22 digs.

Lake City travels to Lakeland on Thursday to wrap up the regular season.

Post Falls

POST FALLS — Kayla Mayo had 22 assists, 17 digs and two aces for the Trojans in a 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20 loss to the Bengals in 5A Inland Empire League play at The Arena.

Allison Munday had 12 kills, Sydney Parks five blocks and Andra Beck two aces for Post Falls (15-16, 1-5 5A IEL), which opens the Region 1 tournament on Saturday.

Hawks fall to Bulldogs,

sweep Bonners Ferry

RATHDRUM — Sierra Mayberry had three aces, eight kills and two blocks to lead the Hawks past the Badgers 25-6, 25-13, 25-10 in a nonleague match at Hawk Court.

Brooklyn Bunch had nine digs for Lakeland (6-14), which hosts Lake City on Thursday.

Earlier, Lexi Black had four aces and nine kills in the Hawks 25-16, 25-23, 25-17 4A Inland Empire League loss to the Bulldogs.

Lilly Sellers had 11 digs for Lakeland, which drops to 0-4 in league.

ST. MARIES — Kelsey Auer had 28 assists, as the Lumberjacks beat the Miners in nonleague play, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.

Kari Ghramm had 13 kills, Aubree Hall six digs and Kaylee Auer five blocks for the Lumberjacks (16-1), who open the 2A District 1-2 tournament on Saturday against Coeur d’Alene Charter at Troy High.

“I moved some things around and got us ready for districts. St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. “I would’ve loved to see a little bit better togetherness. Overall, it was nice to pull out the win.”

Clark Fork

CLARK FORK — Madison Napierala had 12 assists, one ace and three kills as the Warriors beat the Wampus Cats 25-12, 25-15, 25-22 in a North Star League match.

With the win, Kootenai (13-6, 8-2 NSL) and Clark Fork (10-6, 8-2) tied for the league title. The Warriors then won a coin flip to earn the top seed to the 1A Division II District 1 tournament next Saturday at Lake City High. Clark Fork will be the second seed.

“We played very focused as a team tonight,” Kootenai coach Mary Gentry said. “We came out strong and took the first two games quickly. Clark Fork put up a good fight in the third game, but we were able to regain our momentum and finish the match. I’m not a fan of the coin toss, but the luck came to us and we were able to claim first.”

Grace McInturff had nine kills and four blocks and Brook Larson five digs and three kills for Kootenai.

Leslie Kiebert had six kills and three digs and Nona Young had 15 assists for Clark Fork.

PLUMMER — Cailyn Dohrman had seven kills, two blocks and three assists, leading the Knights past the Jaguars 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 in a North Star League match.

“It was a good league win,” Lakeside co-coach Karyn Stockdale said. “The girls played well as a group tonight and they all worked well together.”

Talia Hendricks had two kills, one ace, five digs and 14 assists, Te’a Lambert three aces, five kills and four digs and Sarah Daman six aces and four digs for Lakeside (6-7, 5-5 NSL), which hosts Coeur d’Alene Charter on Thursday.

Genesis Prep (0-9, 0-9) plays host to Mullan on Saturday at Post Falls Middle School.
