State Sen. Janna Taylor, a Dayton Republican, announced today that she will not seek another term.

In her statement, she also announced that state Rep. Al Olszewski, R-Kalispell, would be running to take her place in the Senate.

“Last summer, we loved having the grandkids and traveling. We sold one of our agricultural businesses and now have the time to do those things,” Taylor said in the emailed statement. “I cannot thank the voters of SD 6, and before that HD 11 enough. I am humbled by the support and please continue to call me with any state problems. I will continue to work for you.”

Taylor is ending a 12-year career in the Montana Legislature that included four terms in the House. In the 2013 session, she served as a Majority Whip in the Senate and was the House Speaker Pro Tempore during her final term in the lower chamber.

Olszewski is a first-term representative who currently sits on the House Taxation, Agriculture and Human Services committees.

Olszewski’s House district is one of two districts that make up Senate District 6. Rep. Greg Hertz from Polson serves in the other House district.
