COEUR d'ALENE — The family of Reggie Nault, the 16-year-old who died on Lake Coeur d'Alene while boating with friends in July, said they hope to finally learn what led to the tragedy.

"We have been made aware that the investigation into Reggie's death is continuing and some information may soon be made public," said Brandi Jones, Reggie's mother. "We are thankful for the efforts of all those seeking the truth of what happened on the day of my son's death."

The family said the official death certificate, which will provide a cause of death, will be released soon. They also believe results from the investigation by authorities could be available soon.

Nault was heading into his junior year at Coeur d'Alene High School, where he played baseball.

Nault's sister, Dasha Drahos, spoke out shortly after his death to say it is important that justice is served.

"We are now one step closer to that goal," Drahos said. "I am so grateful for all of you who came forward with facts and information, and for those who truthfully spoke out."

If the facts support legal action to hold others accountable for wrongful conduct, the family supports that.

Lee James, the attorney for Jones and Drahos, urged people with knowledge of the facts relating to Nault's death to still come forward.

"Whether you are an eyewitness, saw a related Snapchat video or heard someone tell you facts that may be helpful, please contact the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office," James said.

James told The Press the family is letting the investigation by the sheriff's office proceed before making any decision about possible civil action.

"A civil action would be based upon facts of wrongful conduct and the need for personal accountability," James said.

He said the family supports the county's investigation.

On Monday, Lt. Stu Miller, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, told The Press he didn't know the status of the investigation but would check with detectives. There was no word from the sheriff's office by The Press’s deadline.
