Spooktacular displays at Post Falls Lions Club haunted house

POST FALLS — The Post Falls Lions Club invites the community to a theater it has dreamed up. But you may want to bring an extra set of underwear to this showing. It won't be comfortable.
A theater scene within the club's Haunted House fundraiser at Fourth and Post is among the new features of the nonprofit's 39th year of spooking folks.
"We've changed up five rooms and have made some pretty drastic changes to our spinning tunnel," said Mike Jarrett, club president, declining to release too many details in fear of spoiling surprises.
"The word from people coming through is they love what we've done. The maze is different inside. We love scaring the bejesus out of people."
Jarrett said the spinning tunnel is one of the main attractions.
"It seems to really mess with people's minds, but they like it so well that they want to go back through," he said. "It was a pipe dream we had at one time that was realized."
The club has had a long time to think how to scare people.
"After opening up in July (during the Post Falls Festival), we worked every weekend in August and September," Jarrett said. "We've put in a lot of hours. We've had brainstorming sessions for ideas, there's word of mouth and we use Google a lot."
Jarrett said the house remains a viable fundraiser despite being held for so many years because the club constantly changes the house's features. He said people also like that it benefits people in need. Jarrett said the club expects to hold the event for years to come and that more than 1,000 visitors have dared to walk through the house so far this season.
The house is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to midnight through Halloween, along with Tuesday through Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m.
Admission is $7 or $5 with two cans of food that will be donated to the Post Falls Food Bank. There's a covered area for visitors waiting to enter the house.
Proceeds go toward local people in need of eye or hearing care, wheelchair ramps and student scholarships. Local students assist the club as spooks.
For more information, call the Lions Club at 262-1122.
"We enjoy scaring the daylights out of people, making money at it and giving it right back to the community," Jarrett said.
