LETTER: Thanks for help with Walk to End Alzheimer's

Kalispell residents united last month in a movement to reclaim the future for millions at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The generosity of your community was clearly demonstrated as people raised money, donated gifts and came together to volunteer. The caring community of Kalispell alone raised over $14,000, contributing to more than $240,000 raised across Montana for care, support and research efforts for those living with Alzheimer’s.

We are grateful to our Walk chair, Ronalee Skees (Immanuel Lutheran Communities), and our committee members who gave so generously of their time and talents. A special thank you also to our Gold Level Sponsor, First Interstate Bank. The overwhelming support of your community makes it possible for the Alzheimer’s Association to bring much-needed help and hope to the growing number living with Alzheimer’s. This devastating, degenerative and ultimately fatal disease affects nearly 20,000 people in Montana and their families — and more than 5 million across the country. It has no treatment, no cure and no means of prevention. Not yet.

It can be discouraging, but we are heartened by the compassion of others. And we are confident that individuals and families in our community living with Alzheimer’s (or other dementias) will feel their burdens lift just a bit to realize that they are not on this journey alone. If your family needs helps, please call our 24/7 Helpline at 800.272.3900 or visit alz.org. —Lynn Mullowney, Billings, executive director, Alzheimer’s Association Montana Chapter
