SANDPOINT — Standing at attention or with your hand on your heart: Which is the most appropriate for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance?

Shelby Rognstad, mayoral candidate, is under fire for his posture during reciting the Pledge of Allegiance during the Bonner County Republican Women, Inc. candidate forum, Oct. 20. His hands were behind his back and he was standing toward the flag in full attention, he said, and he has no issues reciting the pledge, but has done so for years without covering his heart.

“That’s how I have said the Pledge of Allegiance for years,” Rognstad said. “It opens my heart to the flag.”
