Alberton vs. Lincoln on Senior Night

Alberton Lady Panthers took on the Lincoln Lady Lynx on Saturday night in Alberton. It was also Senior Night for their lone senior player, Deveyn Dutt and team manager, Kierstan McConnell. The ladies were escorted onto the court by their parents and presented with balloons and flowers by their teammates. Then their accomplishments and future plans were announced to the crowd.
In the first set of the night, Alberton took an early lead. Lincoln narrowed the score 19-14, but in the end, Rebecca Pluth took Alberton in for a win, scoring the final 4 points for a 25-16 victory.
Next, in the second set of the evening, the teams were evenly matched with just a few point spread. Toward the end of the set, Dutt came in to serve and nailed the final 7 points for a win of 25-14.
Lincoln took an early lead in the third set despite a good run from Alberton. Lincoln came back strong and won 16-25.
In the final contest of the night, the teams fought hard, with a one to two point spread. Lincoln had the lead through most of the game, until Dutt stepped in and scored 4 points for the tie at 18-18. Within a few more plays, Sam Clevenger came in with 4 more points, taking the Alberton lead to 24-20. Lincoln fouled on the final shot for an Alberton win of 25-21. “I’m excited that we’re going into the playoffs with a win,” said Alberton Coach Lexy Fisher. District volleyball playoffs will be held this week, starting October 29th in Victor.
Alberton ended the night with 44 Digs, led by Dutt with 10, Lincoln had 11. Clevenger lead with 7 out of 27 Kills, followed by Montanna Baughman and Dutt who each had 6. Clevenger also lead with 5 out of 12 Aces. Rebecca Pluth had 16 out of 16 Assists. Baughman lead in Blocks with 4 out of 7. Lincoln had 13 Kills, led by Jerilyn Dietz with 5. Lincoln also had 5 Assists, 6 Aces and 9 Blocks.

Mineral County sends tax bill to Forest Service
The Forest Service will be receiving a property tax bill from Mineral County this year. County Commissioners Laurie Johnston, Roman Zylawy and Duane Simons signed the letter March 9 requesting property tax revenue for 2017. The “historic letter” as defined by Rep. Denley Loge, describes the plight Mineral County is facing as options to fund the county have dried up.
Colorado woman dies after vehicle gets stuck
An early evening call received by Mineral County dispatch on Friday, March 17, ended in tragedy. The body of Colorado resident Debra Ann Koziel was found in the Fish Creek area by a search team the following Tuesday afternoon. Her death was determined to be the result of exposure to weather.

No major flooding as snow thaws
“As the ground starts thawing, the rocks start falling,” was a post made on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page last week. A photo accompanied the post of a big rock which had come down on Mullan Road East near the Big Eddy fishing access in Superior on March 11. “Please be aware of your surroundings and pay attention while driving,” they warned in the post.
