Steve Roberge announced Monday he is running for mayor of Dalton Gardens.

Roberge has served on the city council for 16 years, including eight years as president.

He moved to Dalton Gardens in 1989, but his family roots go back to the early 1900s. His great grandparents - on his mother's side - settled in the community at that time.

"I always want to give back to my community in some way," he said.

He and his wife of 35 years, Denise, share three grown children. He is the district manager of Waste Management of Idaho-Coeur d'Alene.

He wants to work to maintain the country feel of the city. He also would like to continue to contribute to the ongoing partnership with the city of Coeur d'Alene as commercial sewer infrastructure is installed along Government Way.

"That's a big deal for us," he said.

The businesses are getting off septic systems and onto Coeur d'Alene's sewer system.

Roberge, who has been the city's liaison with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office and local fire departments, wants to reduce the number of speeders coming through town and ensure public safety.
