Sex offender arrested for Ronan assault

Ameen Yusuf Omar-El, 51 of Ronan, was arrested and charged with felony assault with a weapon Saturday after being accused of stabbing a 20-year-old Ronan man.
Omar-El, who is listed in the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking office, appeared before Lake County Justice Court Judge Randal Owens Monday, was informed of his rights and will be processed in Lake County District Court.
Along with his federal sex offender designation, Omar-El, who also lived on Detwilder Road in Arlee, is listed on Montana Department of Corrections Sexual and Violent Offenders registry.
Omar-El was convicted of felony conviction for Kidnapping in 1997 and of felony aggravated robbery a 2001, both were Minnesota crimes, the Montana Department of Justice registry said.
No public records were available to further define Omar-El’s original two convictions at presstime.
Omar-El is listed with a Main Street, Ronan address which is located .01 mile from Ronan Middle and High School and.2 miles from K. William Harvey Elementary School and Mountain Heights Mennonite School.
The Montana Sexual or Violent Offender Registration Act is designed to protect the public from sexual or violent offenders by requiring offenders to register with local law enforcement agencies in the jurisdiction where they reside.
This information is public. Lake County Law Enforcement personnel keep regular one-on-one check-ins and updates on all Sexual and Violent Offenders List convicts in the county. Omar-El is expected to be transferred to District Court where felony charges are handled.
