Whitefish, Libby split in soccer play

WHITEFISH — Kess Nelson had seven goalie saves, Haley Nicholson scored two goals and Kellie Brown added another as Whitefish opened Northern A soccer play with a 3-0 victory on Thursday afternoon at Smith Fields.
Whitefish (2-0 overall, 1-1 league) led 1-0 five minutes into the match on Nicholson’s goal.
The other two goals for WHS were in the second half. Anna Peterson assisted on both of those.
“We knocked the ball around a lot,” said Whitefish coach Roland Benedict.
“We maintained good possession and created at lot of chances. Their keeper made a lot of great saves.”
Whitefish plays at Corvallis on Saturday.

WHITEFISH — Cory Wood scored four goals to power Libby to a Northern A soccer victory over Whitefish at Smith Fields.
Wood put Libby up first with a goal at 19 minutes.
Whitefish managed to tie it at 24 minutes on a penalty kick by Walter Sobba.
But Wood added another goal in the first half and more two in the second.
Whitefish (1-1, 0-1) plays at Corvallis on Saturday.
