NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals down Casper in five

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah - Brittany Gay had 36 assists and one ace, helping the North Idaho College volleyball team defeat Casper College 24-26, 25-21, 25-14, 20-25, 15-7 in the final match of the Crystal Inn Invitational on the campus of Salt Lake Community College on Saturday.

Brenna Meehan had 14 kills and 14 digs, Brooke Bell 12 kills, Jadan Ross 16 digs and Zuri Meehan 10 assists for NIC against Casper.

Earlier, Ross had 19 digs as the Cardinals lost to Northwest College of Powell, Wyo., ranked third in the NJCAA, 22-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22.

Brenna Meehan had 15 kills, Gay 27 assists, Zuri Meehan 10 assists and Brooke Bell three blocks for NIC (8-5), which travels to Blue Mountain College of Pendleton, Ore., on Thursday.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Braden Ridgewell scored the lone goal of the nonconference loss for the Cardinals against the Pirates.

"We made some early season type of errors," NIC coach Kent Thompson said. NIC (2-1) travels to face Highline today in Des Moines, Wash.

First half - 1, Pen, David Joyce (unassisted), 13:00. 2, Pen, Keo Ponce (unassisted), 24:00. 3, Pen, Ponce (David Joyce), 32:00. Second half - 4, NIC, Braden Ridgewell (unassisted), 87:00.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. - Lexi Krieger recorded a hat trick as the Pirates beat the Cardinals in a nonconference match.

"Except for two minutes, the first half was pretty even," NIC coach Dan Hogan said. "But Peninsula made some changes in the second half and beat up on us pretty good. We still gave everyone minutes trying to see what improvements we need to make that probably led to a couple of the goals."

NIC (1-2) faces Highline today in Des Moines, Wash.
