COEUR d'ALENE - The Convoy of Hope makes its return to the Kootenai County Fairgrounds Saturday for the 2015 North Idaho Day of Hope.
The Day of Hope is a free event that provides guests with health and dental services, school supplies, a kids' zone, job services and more. The gates open at 10 a.m. and will continue while supplies last.
More than 90 nonprofits, businesses, churches and government agencies will be at the fairgrounds offering services and goods for those in need, completely free of charge.
Day of Hope coordinator Deb Ayers said Convoy plans to serve 6,500 guests this year.
Melissa Bingham, of Hayden, will be attending the event with her children.
"I think it's a wonderful things for parents out there that have a struggle," Bingham said. "In this day and age, things are horribly expensive for some folks."
Bingham said this will be her first time at Day of Hope, and she looks forward to finding new connections in the community.
Ayers said Convoy is focused on creating those much-needed community connections.
"It's about partnering in long-lasting relationships so that we can continually offer services and resources throughout the year and provide hope for a better, healthier, happier future to those who are struggling in our community," Ayers said.
There will be a volunteer rally Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Lake City Community Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road; all are welcome to join.
"Day of Hope is an amazing day of community and family fun," Ayers said. "We encourage everyone to come out for the day and enjoy a stress-free, joy-filled day."
