There was a special moment between the third and fourth quarters of Friday's football game between host Lake City and Central Valley of Spokane Valley.

A few family members of Sgt. Greg Moore, who was fatally shot on May 5 while he was checking on a suspicious person while patrolling a neighborhood in Coeur d'Alene, were presented with a plaque by Lake City. Moore's wife, Lindy, his son Dylon, and Dylon's mother, Jennifer Brumley, accepted the plaque.

The school also helped raise more than $3,800 for a fund in Sgt. Moore's name, to benefit his family, from the Kootenai County Police and Fire Memorial Foundation.

The brief presentation involved a piece of a 2002 Lake City football helmet. Sgt. Moore served as a school resource officer at Lake City from 1999-2002.

It was scheduled for Aug. 28, when Lake City was to host Rocky Mountain, but poor air quality moved that game to the Kibbie Dome. Former Lake City High Principal John Brumley is Dylon's grandfather and Brumley hired Lake City coach Van Troxel.

"This was originally intended for the first week when we played Rocky," Troxel said. "They had it all organized and nature took care of it, but Officer Moore was a son-in-law of our principal. He's the guy who hired me and helped me create this and so there was a lot of contact and then Sgt. Moore worked in our building, so there were ties all the way around and it was something we felt as a school, especially since he worked for us, that we really needed to do this, but we had a great turnout and it went really well and it's a big deal for us."

Of course, several LCHS kids and others of various ages said - actually chanted - it all.

"We love Moore! We love Moore! We love Moore!"

IN QUITE the scheduling quirk this season, the Post Falls football team has played two of its first three games in college stadiums, the second being Friday's 14-7 loss to University High of Spokane Valley coming at Roos Field on the campus of Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

"It's a great experience," said Post Falls senior cornerback Preston Bourgard of playing on Eastern's field. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be out there on the red field. You can only do it once and there's no take-backs."

Post Falls had to move its scheduled opener at home against Sandpoint to the Kibbie Dome due to poor air quality. Thus far, the Trojans are 0-2 in games in college stadiums.

"We've got to capitalize on our chances on offense and keep doing what we've been doing on defense," Bourgard said. "If we do that, we'll get where we want to be at the end of the season."

Both senior Nathan Gregory and junior Cory Brown took snaps at quarterback on Friday for Post Falls, which is at East Valley this Friday.

"We've had a couple of guys that have been competing for the job," said Post Falls offensive coordinator Sean Dorris, who filled in as acting head coach Friday for ailing head coach Jeff Hinz.. "Our starter the last two weeks (Gregory) has done a great job. When our offense was a little stagnant in the first half, we switched it up to try and get a spark and give it a shot with the other guy (Brown) that's been working hard and get him some reps."

Dorris, a 1989 graduate of Coeur d'Alene High, was a three-year starter at the University of Montana and was an All-American in 1991 and was the head coach in Sandpoint from 2004-06.

"It's a great environment and good for the kids to get to experience a setting like this," Dorris said. "It's too bad we couldn't get a win tonight."
