The Columbia Falls girls soccer team blanked Bigfork for its first conference victory Tuesday night. The Wildkats outshot the Valkyries 20-7 in a game where they dominated possessions.

Joyce Hatfield got the first goal of her high school career and Ellie Johnson had a goal and an assist in the win.

Last week the girls avenged last year’s state tournament loss to Laurel Sept.11, dropping the Lady Locomotives 2-0, but fell apart against Billings Central the next day, losing 7-0.

The Kats haven’t lost by that wide a margin in years.

“The old cliché, a wakeup call,” coach Greg Trenerry said. “A learning experience.”

Against Laurel, Ashley Miller score at the 13-minute mark and a minute later, Tavia Bechtel scored on a penalty kick.

Trenerry said the despite the Central lapse, the team actually had its best performance in the opening four games against eastern teams ever, going 2-1-1.

The Kats are now 3-1-1 on the season.

The girls face Libby Saturday at 2 p.m.
