COEUR d'ALENE - Nicholas Mahin, who played eight years of minor league baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization, has been named the head baseball coach at Coeur d'Alene High, Coeur d'Alene athletic director Bryan Duncan announced in a news release.
Mahin replaces Nick Rook, whose contract was not renewed following seven seasons (148-44), including a state runner-up finish in 2013.
Mahin coached in the American Legion baseball program in Lakeland and Timberlake, as well as at Cal State-Northridge near Los Angeles.
"I believe that a good coach can change a young man's life path and I have dedicated my life to the greatest game there is, baseball," Mahin said in the release. "I very much would like to enhance the baseball program here at Coeur d'Alene, doing my best to teach the young men how to respect the game as well as them in a way that will no doubt turn our program into one that not only wins, but wins with class, and holds utmost respect for America's greatest pastime."
Michael Borowski joins the Viking program as an assistant varsity baseball coach and will also teach social studies at the high school. He coached and taught for the last several years at JSerra Catholic High in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
