COEUR d'ALENE - The North Idaho for Bernie organization is holding a campaign rally for Bernie Sanders in Coeur d'Alene next week.

There will be two events on Wednesday. The first event is a "Feel the Bern" hike around Tubbs Hill at 2:30 p.m. starting at the 10th Street entrance and ending in McEuen Park with a "Feel The Bern" Chili and Salsa Cookoff at the Avista Grand Pavilion starting at 3:30 until 6 p.m.

"Anybody can join the cookoff," said organizer Elizabeth Rose, adding they can either contact her at the telephone number at the end of this article or by emailing Jeremiah Brunelle at [email protected]

Some of the activities at the event will include chili and salsa tasting and judging. Rose said there will be a number of guest speakers, music, raffles for Bernie swag, and info about the Idaho Democratic Caucus for Kootenai County in March.

"We will also have inspirational words from Bernie," Rose said, adding they will be pre-recorded audio speeches from Sanders' Liberty University talk and some more-recent speeches because the pavilion is not ready for video messages.

The whole event and competition are free. Walking Tubbs Hill is not required to attend the McEuen Park rally. Rose said the event is open to all Bernie 2016 supporters.

Rose said the event is paid for by "real people of North Idaho for Bernie, not the corporate billionaires."

Rose said if the last Sanders event was any indication, she expects hundreds of people to turn out.

"I could be wrong," she said. "But I am feeling the Bern."
