BONNERS FERRY - Timberlake defeated Bonners Ferry 25-15, 16-25, 15-8 in the championship match of the Bonners Ferry Invitational on Saturday.

Matraca Rocheleau had 27 assists in the title match for Timberlake, and Kenzie Dean added eight kills and four digs.

In pool play, Timberlake beat Bonners Ferry on points after they split two games, 22-25 and 25-12. Shelbee Hester had eight aces for the Tigers. Timberlake beat Stillwater Christian 25-18, 25-14, Clark Fork 25-10, 25-11 and the Post Falls junior varsity 25-18, 25-17.

In tournament play, Timberlake beat Stillwater Christian 25-14, 25-13, then beat Bonners in the title match.

Timberlake (14-6) plays Lakeland and Lake City on Tuesday in a tri-match at Lake City.

Clark Fork head coach Cindy Derr welcomes any seasoning her team can get against bigger schools, and despite going 2-3 on the day, was pleased with her team's play at the Bonners Ferry tourney.

The Wampus Cats (6-5), who are undefeated in North Star League play, lost 25-18, 25-21 to Stillwater and 25-10, 25-11 to Timberlake, before rallying to beat the Post Falls JV 25-19, 25-17, followed by a 25-21, 25-18 win over Bonners Ferry. The Cats then played the Badgers again in the finale, falling 25-18, 25-18 as a two-player bench finally caught up to them.

"They played well in parts, but just ran out of steam. They were all bigger schools," said Derr, who didn't have any JV players and had only eight players available. "At the end we were running on nothing."

Freshman Brooke Stevens had 19 assists, five kills and two blocks, Leslie Kiebert 13 kills and six digs, Nona Young 19 assists and two aces and Sarah Holderman five blocks on the day for the 1A Wampus Cats, who continue to emerge as the season progresses.

Clark Fork is at North Idaho Christian on Monday.

Lewiston d. Sandpoint

SANDPOINT - Laney Search tallied 11 kills, 23 set assists, 20 digs and three aces, but the Bulldogs came up just short to the Bengals in a 15-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13 loss in nonleague play at Les Rogers Court.

The Bulldogs (9-9) are no strangers to five set matches, but squandered a few chances to notch a solid win over a 5A program.

"It was a disappointing loss, we were in positions to beat this 5A school several times but couldn't finish," said Bulldogs head coach Erin Roos. "We didn't block or attack well today. We will work on putting it all together for our next match against Moscow Tuesday."

Kayla Neumann added 13 kills and 18 digs, Grace Kirscher 12 kills, Ali Creighton six kills and eight assists and Rylee Darling 18 digs and three aces in defeat. Roos praised the aggressive play of Creighton in the attack, as well as the solid back row defense of Kaitlan Ward.

Sandpoint is at Moscow on Tuesday.
