The Columbia Falls girls soccer team racked up a couple of conference wins last week. They downed Bigfork 4-0 Sept. 15 at home and blanked Libby 5-0 on Saturday.
The Wildkats outshot the Valkyries 20-7 in a game where they dominated possessions. Joyce Hatfield got the first goal of her high school career and Ellie Johnson had a goal and an assist in the win.
Against Libby, the Kats got off to a slow start and the Lady Logger defense held tough for a half. Katie Price had the lone goal for Columbia Falls in the first half.
But in the second half, they poured it on. Price ended up with a hat trick in the rout and outshot the Loggers 30-2.
Hannah Gedlaman and Johnson also scored for the Cats. Johnson leads the team in assists by a wide margin.
The competition gets tougher for the girls as they faced Polson away Tuesday after presstime and then are at home against cross-valley rival Whitefish on Saturday. Game time is noon. The girls are now 4-1-1 and Polson is 5-1.
“We have to go out and play hard against Polson and the defense has to pay attention to the long balls,” coach Greg Trenerry said.
